Monday morning we woke up to enjoy our last day in Cusco, Peru. With much more rest to start the day, wewere ready to volunteer one last afternoon before catching our bus to Arequipa on our way to Santiago, Chile. We had worked it out with Scott to come in since we really enjoyed working there. It was nice to be able to spend the afternoon talking to Scott and the other volunteers one last time.
We brought our laundry in to a little hostel down the road from the coffee shop that morning so it would be close and ready to go in time for our bus ride. We were told it would be ready at 6pm which was perfect since our bus was at 8:30 and we had to be there an hour early as well as repack and clean up before heading out.
After closing up at The Meeting Place we walked over to the hostel to be to be told that our laundry wouldn't be arriving until 8. BIG problemo! You should have seen the looks on our faces. It ended up turning out ok, but when we dropped the laundry off we failed to recognize what we've already been told and experienced about "South American" time. It's typically 15 minutes to 30 minutes to days from the original time agreed upon. Oops...it was funny to learn about that and the. Envision half of our clothes being left in Peru. Lesson learned and on to Arequipa!
